Civic Center is the area where government and the cultural arts
intersect. Along with municipal, state and federal offices,
sights include our City Hall, at Van Ness Avenue & Grove. The
classic architecture of our center of city government led to
City Hall being declared a national landmark in 1978. Tours are
offered Monday-Friday, 10am, noon and 2pm, from the information

Pick up fresh produce, flowers and treats at the Farmers’
Market in U.N Plaza every Wednesday and Sunday. The elegant
Opera House, Van Ness Avenue at Grove, is home to the San
Francisco Ballet and award-winning San Francisco Opera, and the
site where the United Nations charter was originally signed. War
Memorial Veterans Building, 401 Van Ness, houses Herbst Theatre
and the Museum of Performance and Design (415-225-4800).The
stunning Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall, Grove and Van Ness
Avenue, is home of the San Francisco Symphony. Tours of

The
Asian Art Museum, located at 200 Larkin Street, features a
world- class collection of the arts of Asia. The city’s Main
Library at 100 Larkin Street features an ongoing schedule of

Adjacent Hayes Valley, centered along Hayes Street between
Franklin and Laguna, is a revitalized city neighbourhood
offering interesting architecture, local designers' and artists'
studios and restaurants. Nearby Alamo Square, at Hayes and
Steiner Streets, is known as postcard Row for its much
photographed colorful victorians.
