Here is a list of items that either necessary or useful for your travel. The stars (*) indicate items that you should have accessible during travel time (vs what you can pack on checked items for flights).

Must Have:

Wallet and/or purse and cash

*ID and/or passport (Make copies of passport, driver’s licence, insurance cards, vaccination certificate; keep a copy with you and give one to a friend/family member for back-up)

*Credit cards and/or traveler's checks (plus a list of numbers of both) Consider using a bankcard to for purchases and to withdraw cash as needed rather than traveler’s checks. For foreign travel, this may offer a better exchange rate.

Car and house keys (plus extra sets kept in different bags)

*Eyeglasses and/or contact lenses (plus lens cleaner and prescription, just in case)

Medical insurance cards, list of phone numbers

*Prescriptions and other medications

*Itineraries, tickets and reservation confirmations

Maps (Print out our maps for directions)

*Cell phone, PDA, computer if business trip

Camera and film or digital camera and memory cards, device chargers, extra batteries, electrical adapter (if traveling overseas)

(Hotels supply some toiletry items, but bring ones that you particularly use/need)

Toothbrush/Toothpaste

Bath Soap/Shampoo/Conditioner/Body Lotion

Deodorant

Mouthwash/Floss

Cologne/Perfume

Extra contact lenses, glasses

Razor/Shave Cream

Hair Dryer

Tissues

Bottle Opener/Wine Opener

Sunscreen/sunglasses

Nail clippers/tweezers/small scissors

Cosmetics

Cotton Balls/Q-tips

Combs, Brushes

Matches/Lighter

Insect Repellent/ Lotion for insect bites

Must Do:

Remove trash from home before departure.

Buy traveler’s checks (remember, not all businesses accept traveler’s checks).

Put name and destination phone number or destination address in luggage. Don’t put the address of your vacant home.

If driving, tune-up car, check tires, battery, major fluids, brakes etc.

Replace expired prescriptions and medication and check date on sunblock (most SPF lotions lose potency over time).

Replenish Toiletries kit

Hold incoming mail and newspapers (or arrange for a friend to take in).

Pay upcoming bills that can’t wait.

Change voicemail messages if absence notification is necessary.

Notify a friend or family member of your vacation and give phone # for emergencies.

If you're leaving your car, leave it parked securely in garage, driveway, etc.

Lock all windows and doors before you leave.

Unplug small appliances.

Turn off/down AC/Heat; turn down temperature on hot water heater if advisable.

Make arrangements for any pets you have.

Make list and/or photos of luggage contents (in case of loss).

For the Baby:
If flying, check airlines regulations regarding what you can bring on the flight.

2 outfits per day, sleeping clothes

Blankets

* Diapers (plastic bags to carry and dispose of soiled diapers)

Changing Pad

Stroller

* Baby formula/Bibs/Baby Food and Spoon

* Pacifiers

* Baby Wipes/Baby Powder/Diaper Rash Lotion

Packing Clothes:

Change of clothes for each person per day. Check the weather of your destination city to help plan your wardrobe. Consider day tripping as well as evening plans. Be creative as to how to combine items for day adventures with pieces to dress up for evening. If you are renting a place with laundry facilities, you may be able to get away with less.

Sweater or jacket and long pants for cooler days/evenings

Walking shoes, dressier shoes for evening

Jewelry/watch

Swimsuit and cover-up (for hot tub or pool)

Baseball caps or wide-brim hats (to protect faces from sun)

Sunglasses with UV protection

Sandals (rubber, plastic or waterproof are best and can be used for slippers)

Light-weight, foldable carry bag (to pack with extra items for daytrips, or dirty laundry to take home)

Band aids/Gauze/Moleskin (for blisters)

Aspirin/Pain reliever/Allergy Tablets/Motion Sickness Tablets
