Be a private eye while celebrating the Year of the Tiger at the annual Chinese New Year Treasure Hunt, a unique urban sleuthing adventure played on the streets of Chinatown, North Beach, and Telegraph Hill on the night of the annual Chinese New Year Parade Saturday, February 7, 2009. The Hunt begins at 4:30pm (rain or shine) (check in at 3:30) in Justin Herman Plaza, located at the foot of Market St. at the Embarcadero (behind the Hyatt Regency Hotel) and ends at 9pm. Hundreds of amateur sleuths (grouped into teams or two or more) will explore obscure alleys and hidden lanes solving clues. Cities tell rich stories in their streets, and the Hunt is chance to see San Francisco in an entirely new way, and discover the hidden treasures most people commonly overlook in their destination-focused travels. Treasure hunting teams have 4 hours to solve 16 clues that lead to obscure landmarks, forgotten architectural delights and vestiges of San Francisco's colorful past. The Treasure Hunt winds it way through the annual Chinese New Year Parade, with its dancing dragons, popping firecrackers, and half a million spectators, adding a colorful, raucous and exciting backdrop to the Hunt. Players can come with a team already organized, or can join like-minded hunters at the event; it's a great way to make new friends.

Enjoy world class operas presented in English in a lovely theater inside the
Legion of Honor. Pocket Opera’s 33rd season is a celebration of the artistry
and lifetime of dedication of Donald Pippin to the musical wealth of San
Francisco and the world of opera.
Here is a pick of the Pocket’s for 2010:
"La Cenerentola" by Rossini provides a twist on the fairy tale romance
Cinderella. Famous for its lush score, this opera is a favorite of all ages.
February 27, Sat, 2pm, Legion of Honor
February 28, Sun, 2pm, Legion of Honor
"Halka" will thrill and surprise you. Following last season’s Haunted Manor,
Pippin is creating an English setting for a second opera by the Polish
composer, Moniuszko. Pocket Opera’s affiliation with the Polish Cultural
Foundation continues. This production is part of a city-wide celebration of a
sister city status San Francisco has forged with Krakow.
March 27, Sat, 2pm, Legion of Honor
March 28, Sun, 2pm, Legion of Honor
Puccini’s "La Rondine" is a lyric comedy whose heroine will charm you. She is
trapped in all the glitter and corruption of Paris… she finds an ideal love of
whom she has always dreamed.
April 24, Sat., 2pm, Legion of Honor
May 9, Sun, 2pm, Legion of Honor
"Rinaldo" is the 2010 season’s concert-style Handel performed in Italian.
Handel unravels the Middle East and sews it back together again with a
solution that warrants consideration of modern diplomats.
May 22, Sat., 2pm, Legion of Honor
"La Vie Parisienne," an Offenbach favorite, is madcap and chaotic in an “upstairs downstairs” sort of way. Pandemonium is beautifully expressed by Offenbach’s famous music. . . worth the ticket price just to hear those intoxicating melodies.
June 12, Sat. 2pm, Legion of Honor
June 13, Sun, Legion of Honor
Verdi’s "La Traviata" will wrap up the season. A pleasure-loving lady of questionable morality is transformed when she unexpectedly finds true love. This opera is full of tragic yet glorious consequences matched by memorable melodies. It provides a fitting end to another glittering season.
July 10, Sat., 2pm, Legion of Honor
July 11, Sun., 2pm, Legion of Honor
July 17, Sat., 2pm, Legion of Honor
With the exception of Handel's Rinaldo, all the operas will be performed in English, using Donald Pippin's acclaimed translations.

Cadillacs, caballeros, and some outrageous visitations combine for one spectacular birthday party when TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theater of Silicon Valley, presents the West Coast premiere of the exuberant, rollicking new comedy, SUNSETS AND MARGARITAS, by José Cruz González.   Gregorio Serrano has his hands full with his overly assimilated family. So when his father, Calendario crashes his cherished red Cadillac through the wall of his restaurant, it’s pretty clear that it’s time to settle papa into a senior living center. But is it just Papa Calendario, or is Gregorio’s whole family spinning out of control? From his lesbian Republican daughter and her still unnamed infant daughter (Ashleigh, Amber, or Courtney are strong contenders), to his wheel-chair bound, fashion designing, Chicano activist son, to his own erratic visions of the Blessed Virgin and frequent episodes of hyperventilation that make paper bags a must-have accessory, maybe a little bit of “loco” runs in the family.  This delightful comic confección with a heart of pure gold received its world premiere in April, 2009 at the Denver Center Theatre Company, where the Denver Post called it “pure escapism… with big heart.”  Contains Mature Language.
