Interested in learning more about the art and
culture of the world's largest continent? While
in town, check out the Asian Art Museum. With
more than 2,500 treasures on display from all
corners of Asia, exhibitions, complimentary
audio tours (in English, Spanish, French,
Mandarin and Cantonese), delicious pan-Asian
fare at Cafe Asia, and a store considered to be
one of the best museum stores on the West Coast,
you are bound to have a memorable experience.
On view October 24-January 25, 2009: AFGHANISTAN:
HIDDEN TREASURES FROM THE NATIONAL MUSEUM, KABUL. Nearly 200 artifacts
documenting ancient cultural influences, as well as sophisticated local
artistic and cultural traditions, and chronicling the heroic story of how
Afghan citizens hit the country's precious artifacts from invading forces.
Adults $12; seniors (65 and older) $8; college
students with ID and youths 13-17 $7; children
12 and under free. Free first Tuesday of every month.

BERKELEY ART MUSEUM : |

The museum's collection includes historical and
contemporary Asian art; early American painting;
mid-twentieth-century, Conceptual, and
contemporary international art; and California
and Bay Area art. Highlights include important
works by Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Albert
Bierstadt, Paul Gauguin, Helen Frankenthaler,
Jay deFeo, Joan Brown, Jonathan Borofsky, and
Shirin Neshat. The Pacific Film Archives screens
rare films nightly. Adults $8; seniors (65 and

CANTOR ARTS CENTER AT STANFORD UNIVERSITY : |

Art in 24 galleries plus sculpture gardens,
terraces, and courtyard. The Center's diverse
collections span 4000 years and the world's
cultures and number some 25,000 objects,
including the largest collection of Rodin
bronzes outside Paris. Nearly 100 contemporary
sculptures sited outdoors throughout campus.
Presenting a wide range of important changing
exhibitions, docent tours, lectures, gallery
talks, symposia, and classes. Free admission. |

The De Young Museum’s building in Golden Gate
Park integrates art, architecture and the
natural. The de Young collection showcases the
museum's priceless collections of American art
from the 17th through the 20th centuries, and
art of the native Americas, Africa, and the
Pacific; plus important special exhibitions.
Paid parking is available in the Music Concourse
Garage, accessed at 10th Avenue and Fulton
Street, or Martin Luther King Drive and
Concourse Drive. On view November 1-March 1, 2009: YVES SAINT LAURENT,
pieces that made Saint Laurent famous and his inspirations.

European art spanning 4000 years from medieval
to modern, plus a Rodin sculpture court,
stunning porcelain gallery, and galleries for
the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, the
West Coast's largest collection of works on

Beautiful bayside setting featuring Rodin's
"Thinker" in the courtyard. The Holocaust
